How long can you stay in Europe?

The Schengen 90/180 rule trips up every long-trip Aussie and Kiwi. Punch in your stays — we'll do the rolling-window maths, tell you exactly how many days you have left and until when, and show you where in Europe you can duck out to save days.

The rule: a max of 90 days inside the Schengen Area in any rolling 180-day window. It's one shared clock across all 29 countries — not 90 days each. The 180 days “roll”: old days keep dropping off the back, freeing up allowance as you go.

02 · YOUR SCHENGEN STAYS

Add every stay inside the Schengen Area — past ones from the last 180 days AND planned future ones. Entry and exit dates both count as days present. Non-Schengen countries (see the day-saver map below) don't go here.

05 · THE DAY-SAVER MAP

The trick to a long Europe trip: not all of it is Schengen. Time in these countries doesn't touch your 90 days — so you duck out, let the rolling clock recover, and come back with days to spare. Each has its own separate visa-free allowance for Aussies + Kiwis.

The move:hit your 90, then spend a month in the Balkans or a longer stint in Georgia (365 days visa-free!). By the time you circle back, enough days have rolled off the 180-day window to re-enter Schengen legally. That's how people spend a year+ in Europe.

This calculator applies the standard Schengen 90/180 short-stay rule for tourism on Australian and New Zealand passports. It counts entry and exit days as days present, exactly as border officers do. Membership + day-saver data last reviewed August 2026.

Border decisions are always at the officer's discretion, rules change, and long-stay / work / study visas follow different rules. ETIAS(the EU's ~€7 visa-waiver for Aussies + Kiwis) is rolling out — check whether it's live before you fly. For anything border-critical, cross-check with the EU's official short-stay calculator and the destination's embassy.
